Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book a walk in advance?

No - but a phone call to the leader is a good idea and then just get to the start or meeting point shown in the
"Programme of Walks"
page by the published time and make yourself known to the leader. You may be asked to add your name to the list of walkers for the leader.

Where do you meet to start the walks?

Crawley Ramblers normally meet at Crawley Railway Station. However, you may prefer to go straight to the start point. If in doubt, phone the Walk Leader.

How fit do I have to be?

If you’re not sure if you’re fit enough don’t worry! Come along on one of our shorter walks and see how you go. We’re are a mixed group with different abilities (fit to slightly overweight) and ages (mid-20s to mid-70s). Some of us like "View Stops"’ while climbing up the hills.

What will it cost me?

The walks are free. (If you’re not already a member of the Ramblers Association you’ll be invited to join after you have walked three times with us.) If you join in a car- share, it is  suggested that passengers should offer, and drivers accept a contribution toward the cost of fuel and the wear and tear on the vehicle.

How fast do you walk ?

As a rule of thumb we cover about 2 ½ miles per hour, plus time for breaks. (Slower up hills!). Stops are at the leader’s discretion, but usually consist of a 15 minute stop mid-morning and mid-afternoon, and a longer lunch  break which may be near a pub.

When and how far do you walk ?

For walks details, including approximate distances, see our "Programme of Walks" page. This is issued twice a year.

Where do you walk ?

Mainly in West Sussex and Surrey.
