Sheffield Park, West Sussex in autumn Crawley Branch of the Ramblers is a caring group. We
like to walk for pleasure and the enjoyment
of other peoples company, and for the exercise.
We are of mixed ages, some young, some older and
some very old! Our walks are researched and
walked in advance to make sure they are suitable
for all, checking for hazards in case there are
problems for those who are less able than others.

There are, of course, rules and regulations. These are
prescribed by the Ramblers Association and are there
for our safety and guidance. Our Team Leaders are
all experienced walkers and most have been doing the
job for many years and know their walks very well. We
are always on the lookout for new leaders, who are
members of the Ramblers Association.

We have an interesting programme of walks arranged which you can see on our List Walks Page which will take
us right up to the end of March 2008, after which a new one will be posted on this web site.

You have no need to feel you would be amongst strangers, you will be made more than welcome and all will
be explained as you go along so why not come along and walk with us? If you would like more information about our
group ring our chairman on 01293 407772, who will be delighted to answer all your questions and make you
most welcomed.

General Information

The objectives of the Ramblers' Association (Registered Charity No. 1093577) include the preservation of natural
beauty, protection of the footpaths and provision of access to open country.

Membership of the Crawley Ramblers Group is restricted to paid up members of the Ramblers' Association,
but prospective members are welcome to attend three rambles before deciding to join. RA Membership Membership
application forms are obtainable from the Membership Secretary.

Information about Rambles

Please note: People attend rambles and other events at their own risk.

All mileages are approximate. Other information about rambles may be obtained by phoning the leaders.
In the event of severe weather, participants should phone the leader to make sure that the Walk will take place.

Footpaths and fields may be rough, muddy and wet. Wear boots or strong lace-up shoes. On roads with no
footpath, keep well to the right, unless the leader advises otherwise, e.g. when approaching a blind bend.
Keep strictly to the path when crossing ploughed or planted fields. Dogs must be on a lead through crops or where
livestock is present and always be under the owner's control. Members are requested to contact the leader before
bringing a dog on a walk.

Do not force the pace and walk ahead of the leader. Look round now and then to see that the person behind
you is still in sight: alert the leader if the party becomes too spread out. If you become separated and are lost,
use your whistle to attract attention. Let the leader know if you decide to break off for any reason before the
end of the ramble.

Carry food and drink, especially when a picnic lunch is indicated. When the lunch stop is a pub, food is usually
available but not always. On the pub premises, do not consume drink you have brought with you and check with
the leader before eating food you have brought, even in the garden. If you do not want to remove muddy boots,
cover them with plastic bags.

O/S Maps used on Walks will be indicated by either: LR - Landranger (1:50,000 scale),
EX - Explorer  (1:25,000 scale)

I look forward to meeting you in the future on one of our walks...
